Overview 

Oak Openings Preserve is a nature preserve located in the Toledo, Ohio area. Oak Openings Preserve Metropark is owned and operated by Metroparks Toledo. Most of the park is an oak savanna ecosystem, characterized by alternating wetland and vegetated dunes. The park hosts the Buehner Center, an interactive nature center. There are over fifty miles of trails in Oak Openings Preserve.

It is one of the largest parks in the region, covering over 5,000 acres of diverse habitats, including oak savannas, sand dunes, wetlands, and forests.

The park is known for its unique geological features, including the Oak Openings region, which is a rare ecosystem of sand dunes and savannas that support a variety of plant and animal species. The park is also home to several rare and endangered species, including the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, the Indiana Bat, and the Karner Blue Butterfly.
