The Stranahan estate was donated to the city of Toledo in the 1960s, and the Toledo Botanical Gardens was created on a portion of the land. The original gardens were designed by Hahn and Associates, and the first phase of development was completed in 1979.

Since then, it has grown to become one of the top botanical gardens in the region, with over 60 acres of gardens, nature trails, and other outdoor spaces to explore.
